Welcome aboard Olga!

We're happy to welcome Olga Houde to our team as the new coordinator of the Seniors' Mobile Legal Clinic.

Olga has a Masters in International Development from the Université de Montréal (option droit et institutions) and two Bachelor degrees in Political science/International Relations and Economics/Social Sciences from Montreal and Havana.

Olga comes to us from the Bureau international des droits des enfants where she has been working as an Administrative and Logistics Consultant since 2013. Olga speaks fluent French, English, Spanish and Russian with a basic command of Creole, and volunteers at Médecins du monde.

Nous sommes heureux d'accueillir Olga Houde dans notre équipe, en tant que coordonnatrice de la Clinique mobile pour aînés.

Olga possède une maîtrise en développement international de l'Université de Montréal (option droit et institutions) et deux baccalauréats en Sciences politiques / Relations internationales et Économie / Sciences sociales de Montréal et de la Havane.

Elle nous arrive du Bureau international des droits des enfants où elle était consultante depuis 2013. Olga parle couramment français, anglais, espagnol et russe, avec une bonne connaissance du créole, et elle est bénévoles à Médecins du monde.

Bienvenue Marianne

La MCM est heureuse d'accueillir Marianne Leaune-Welt, nouvelle coordonnatrice à la clinique Solutions Justes.

Marianne détient une maîtrise en travail social de l'Université McGill et elle a travaillé jusqu'à récemment pour Médecins du monde. 

Elle se joint à l'équipe formée de Me Mylène Barrière, Me Rick Goldman et quelques stagiaires en droit de l'Univerversité McGill.

Proud of Grandpa

Camp Cosmos director Valentina Solkin has every reason to be proud of her 91 year old grand-father Wolf William Solkin.  

Mr. Solkin, a Second World War Veteran, is the tech savvy editor of the Veteran’s Voice at Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue Hospital , keeping veterans and the larger community informed. 

“This place is a paradise,” said Solkin. “There’s a culture in place that emphasizes respect, consideration and compassion. We don’t want to lose that.”  

Hmm… sounds like the values that motivate his grand-daughter. Valentina – we are proud of you!!

Susannah

We were all very saddened at MCM to learn of the sudden death of former board chair Susannah Feeney. 
Susannah led our organization through some challenging transition times and was at the helm during our centennial celebrations in 2010. Her commitment and passion for MCM and the people we serve was unwavering. 

Our deepest sympathy to her family in B.C. and Quebec.

Nous sommes heureux de t'avoir connu Susannah. Repose en paix.

A Stimulating Chat

A stimulating chat …

with United Church Moderator Gary Paterson took place this week at St. James United. A diverse crowd from St. James and MCM gathered to exchange ideas with Moderator Paterson on everything from LGBTQ rights … to refugees … to the UCC position on religious fundamentalism … to the future of the United Church itself.

Merci Gary pour ta disponibilité, ton honnêteté, et ta chaleur. Bonne chance et au plaisir de te revoir bientôt.

I Love You, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do

Congratulations to MCM board member Geoff Duerden on his recent marriage to Lisa LeRoy.  

In lieu of wedding gifts, Geoff and Lisa ‘paid it forward’ by choosing two charities to receive tribute donations in their honour:  Maison de la Gare St-Louis  that works with street children in Senegal where Lisa and her dad Rod have been very active for several years, and Montreal City Mission.

Geoff and Lisa, your work for social justice along with your kindness and compassion are inspirational!  We are all lucky to have you both in our lives.  Best wishes as you begin this new chapter.

Toutes nos félicitations à Geoffrey Duerden, membre de notre conseil d’administration, et Lisa LeRoy pour leur tout récent mariage. 

Plutôt qu’opter pour des cadeaux de mariages traditionnels, Lisa et Geoff ont choisi d’honorer deux organismes humanitaires en suggérant à leurs invités de plutôt faire une contribution à la Maison de la Gare St-Louis qui vient en aide aux enfants de la rue au Sénégal, une organisation que Lisa et son père Rod soutiennent depuis plusieurs années, ou à la Mission communautaire de Montréal.

Geoff et Lisa, votre travail pour la justice sociale, ainsi que votre générosité et votre compassion, nous inspire! Nous sommes heureux de vous compter parmi nous.
