A Lovely Evening for Camp Cosmos

On a beautiful spring evening in late April, a small group of people gathered for an intimate night of music at the House of Friendship on Duluth in support of Camp Cosmos. 

The concert opened with singer-songwriter Eliza Moore, whose original compositions (as well as a cover or two) set the mood of warmth, honesty, openness, and love that defined the evening. 

Former camp counsellor and classically-trained pianist Stefano Degano then played a couple of his favourite songs, giving heartfelt and educative introductions to each piece. 

The concert was closed by Egyptian musician Shams Al-Habib – accompanied at times by her two delightful and talented young sons – who maintained the same warmth and love of the evening.

 

Thank you so much to the musicians, to the concert-goers, and to those who supported the cause even though they could not make it to the concert!

Camp Cosmos community appreciation concert!

Dear friends,

As the sun stays out longer each passing day and as the crocuses start poking their way through the soil, we know that summer will soon be here...and this means that Camp Cosmos will soon be in full swing again!  

Before long, a new cohort of campers will start on their six-week adventure of making new friends, trying new things, growing, and discovering - all while making this city a little greener.

With this in mind, we would like to invite you to a Camp Cosmos community appreciation concert!

When: Tuesday, April 30th at 7:30pm 

Where: The House of Friendship (120 Duluth St. East, H2W 1H1)

What: A musical evening featuring Shams Al-Habib who will be performing Sufi chants & Zikr, Stefano Degano performing piano solos, and Eliza Moore performing original compositions on guitar, piano, and violin.

For whom?: For all who have become part of the Camp Cosmos community through offering a donation. 

If you have not yet donated, it is simple to donate now: simply visit Camp Cosmos on CanadaHelps.org (click here) and make a donation!  

The suggested donation amount is $15-$50, depending on what you feel you are able to give.

Chaque jour qui passe, le soleil brille de plus en plus longtemps et les crocus commencent à sortir de terre, ce qui signifie que l’été sera bientôt là... et donc que le Camp Cosmos reprendra vie et ouvrira à nouveau ses portes! 

Une nouvelle cohorte de campeurs commenceront alors leur aventure de six semaines durant laquelle ils rencontreront de nouveaux amis, essairont de nouvelles choses, exploreront et découvriront.... tout en rendant la ville plus verte.

Do 1 Thing 2012!

Do 1 Thing!!  And we did! We had a wonderful benefit concert for Project Refuge this past Tuesday, November 6th at the Mile End Cabaret.

Le Cabaret Mile End était plein, l’ambiance était au rendez-vous et l’énergie dans la salle était électrique!

Un très grand merci à Wesli, son band et sa magnifique danseuse/chanteuse.

Thank you as well to all of our friends and supporters who bought tickets, donated, tickets and came out on a chilly November evening en masse to support this noble cause – the cause of our refugee brothers and sisters in need of support and a chance to make their own contribution.

Et il ne faut pas oublier l’équipe du Projet Refuge qui a tout organisé d’une façon très ‘classe’:

Une médaille pour Ricardo

La qualité de l'engagement des étudiants qui font leurs stages d'apprentissage à la McM est soulignée cohorte après cohorte, par les responsables des programmes de la McM.

Cette année, notre ex-stagiaire Ricardo «Emrical» Lamour était le récipiendaire de l'une des médailles du Lieutenant-gouverneur du Québec, qui ont pour but de reconnaître l'engagement, la détermination et le dépassement de soi. 

Ricardo, pour sa participation à la planification du spectacle pour les réfugiés « Do 1 Thing» s'est vu remettre cet honneur le 6 mai dernier.

Bravo Ricardo, le monde à besoin de gens comme toi.

Notre danseur étoile du Ballet syrien, Mohamad Haiek, nous a récemment quitté pour Toronto où il fera partie d’une troupe de danse. Nous nous rappellerons toujours la grâce de sa prestation originale, intitulé Refuge, qui a ouvert le bal au Show pour les réfugiés : Do 1 Thing, le 25 novembre dernier.

Quelle ambiance chaleureuse et électrique au Bain Mathieu vendredi dernier pour notre Show pour les réfugiés : Do 1 Thing. Une palette de musiciens se sont succédés sur scène – tous aussi talentueux les uns que les autres…..le tout enveloppé par la voix chaude et pleine d’énergie  de notre animateur par excellence Alfredo Lombisi!  Et ça dansait les amis – au fond de la piscine!

Nos plus sincères remerciements aux artistes : Nomadic Massive, Wesli Band, Murray Lightburn, Laur Fugère, Sylvain Poirier, Emrical, Ngabo, Eliza Moore, Mohamad Haiek, Chaotic Insurrection Ensemble, Odaya, Micros Armés ….. et Thomas Hellman notre porte parole engagé. Voilà la preuve éloquente que la communauté artistique montréalaise, ainsi que les Montréalais de divers horizons, ont à cœur la cause des réfugiés. Grâce à vous tous, l’hospitalité retrouvera sa place dans notre histoire collective! Merci!

En compagnie de quelques uns des artistes et le coordinateur du show,  Sylvain Thibault, Thomas  a invité les Montréalais à venir en grand nombre. En France ils sont 3,5000 annuellement au concert bénéfice pour les réfugiés. Nous pouvons sûrement remplir les 500 places du Bain Mathieu !   Hope to see you this Friday !
